State-Specific Licensure Requirements
While Elmhurst University can provide initial guidance, it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to continually check the state where you intend to seek licensure and to confirm all licensing requirements. Some states will require additional licensure requirements which could include an application, post-graduate examinations, background checks, licensing fees, etc.
View a list of all states and whether the Diane Tyrrell Department of Nursing and Public Health curriculum meets the educational requirements necessary for graduates of the prelicensure programs to be eligible for licensure in that state.
Please contact your program advisor with any further questions.
CSD Program State Authorization
Elmhurst University's online Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders is currently authorized to accept U.S. residents from all states except California, Colorado, New York, South Carolina, and West Virginia.
Please see our state licensure disclosure here.
For SLP licensure, every state requires a graduate degree and a passing score on the Praxis Examination in Speech-Language Pathology. Licensure requirements by state can be viewed here.
Enrollment in Elmhurst University’s online M.S. CSD program does not guarantee licensure. Each state has rules and regulations related to professional licensure requirements, which can change at any time at the state’s discretion. The student is responsible for staying up to date on state licensure requirements.
The online Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders is designed to meet the academic and clinical education requirements for national certification through the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (CCC-SLP) and Illinois state licensure in speech-language pathology.
Please be aware that some states require a separate credential to practice in the school system, which may have additional requirements. If a state Department of Education requires a separate credential to practice in the school system, you must obtain that credential to practice in schools. It is the student's responsibility to determine what is required to obtain the credential to work in the school system. It is the student’s responsibility to remain up to date on all state licensure requirements.
